American Roots MusicMovie:   9/10

This is an excellently put together documentary. Its two DVDs cover everything from blues, cajun, to rock and folk. And this isn't some half-ass job. They have guests like B.B. King, Keith Richards, and Bob Dylan. It's put together by a great team and narrated by Kris Kristofferson. It's a really great documentary, one of the best I've seen. I'm glad to have counteracted that Japanese punk with some music of substance. The only complaint I had is that it didn't go into other genres and it was too short. 4 hours granted, but I wanted more! They could have made this some Ken Burn's thing and like ten hours long and had plenty of substance. A fine documentary. In depth and good looking too.

Video:   8/10

Crystal clear, very nice looking dated archival footage. Full screen. Nothing of reference quality, but good nonetheless.

Audio:   8/10

Again, nice and clear. Not 5.1, granted, but it's still decent and solid, archival footage included. Nice stuff.

Extras:   3/10

Not a whole lot, a timeline (well done) and a handful of performances not seen on television. Not bad at all, but maybe a commentary would be nice or a documentary on how they put all this together. That would have been nice.

Overall:   7/10

A very solid, well done documentary. Covers a lot of music and is very informative. Nice interviews and commentary by musicians. Very well done!
