Still goingIt's been awhile since I've posted a flower photo but with the whole autumn thing going on, there just aren't that many about.  Tack on a painfully dry year and you double the problem.  But then it rained for about two weeks straight and suddenly things are growing again.  Enjoy it.  I don't know when there will be another one.

I'm also starting to hit a point where finding things of interest to photograph is getting pretty difficult.  I spend huge chunks of my time in one rural block of space, so it's starting to feel repetitious for me.  You can probably expect more set up shots in the near future.  Maybe.  I could just be whining and nothing will change.  We'll see.

UnstoppableIt pays to ask.  I was having a terrible time getting pictures at this game in the first half.  The coaches seemed to be actively trying to place themselves between me and the action.  At half time I went and asked if they'd mind me roaming the sidelines.  It was no problem at all.  When you're getting good photos of their team and/or kid, they don't mind at all.  So that gave me the freedom to get shots like this one.

DugoutTonight we tinker with light painting.  I've shot plenty of night photos but never really played around with this idea before.  Very simply, while the shutter is open, you play a light over something in the shot, highlighting it.  In this case, the dugout was painted with my flashlight.  It would have been near invisible otherwise.

Wait, I'm ThinkingI'm a little torn over this picture.  I really wish my son had a better expression in it.  But the photographer in me is delighted with the way the light plays through this shot.  There's a nice edge light on him and the background is full of delightful bokeh.  If only he'd smiled.  Or not been scratching.

On the flip side is a photo of my other son taken very close to this in which he is all smiles and sunshine.  But it lacks all the artsy cool stuff of this shot.  I spent a long time deciding which photo to go with.

I'm still not sure actually.

As the Crow FliesToday we get just a bit abstract.  Like two days ago, nothing really excited me about what I'd shot for the day.  But there were a few experimental shots that had nice elements.  On their own, not great photos, but with something else... maybe something interesting.

So here we have a picture generated by compositing three photos.  One is obviously a shot of a crow flying overhead.  The other two, strangely, are out of focus shots of wet pavement at night.  I was playing with the bokeh created by defocusing the pavement.  Again, by itself, not great but all together, kind of interesting.  At least I think so.  Let me know what you think.

Day 168I seem to have forgotten to post the daily pictures here for the last two days.  The truck is day 168.  Not my favorite photo but something needs to be posted every day, so there it is.

Through the Mist

The leaves that seem to float are for day 169.  Those I'm rather proud of.  I started taking this picture because I liked that this tree stuck up all alone, and against the foggy background, that seemed cool.  But as I moved around trying to find the best angle, I realized that the chain link fence that separated us created a nice effect when I let that drift into the frame.  Suddenly the branches seemed to be poking up out of a mist, almost floating in air.

Just a reminder, that should I forget to post stuff here, you can always find the most recent picture and others that aren't part of my 365 day project at my Flickr page.

Pumpkin PickingHis mom told him that he could have any pumpkin he wanted, as long as he could carry it.  This one just barely qualified.

Go Wildcats!I love how excited these kids are breaking the huddle.  Look at those faces on the right.  They are loving this.  But what makes it so cool, is that this is after the game.  They're that wound up and happy, despite being tired from the game.
