American Pie: Ultimate Edition

E-mail Print PDF
American PieMovie:  7.5/10

The first time I saw this movie, I hated it. I thought it was obnoxious and overly explicit and disgusting. I gave it a second chance and I loved it. I seem to bounce between back and forth between love and dislike. I think some of the jokes are truly hilarious, but yet, movies such as Election, Rushmore, and Fight Club are amusing on more than one level and don't resort to the gross out humor this film does. It's good, but it gets old kind of quickly. Anyway, with that rant out of the way, here's your plot summary. The story revolves around some friends Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Chris Klein), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas). After a night of night of bad partying at the school's number one asshole's house, Stiffler (Seann William Scott), the friends decide to make a pact that they will all shed their virginity by prom night. Meanwhile, we have the other end of the spectrum, the girls dealing with the guys. We have Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), a foreign exchange student who Jim has the hots for; Vicky (Tara Reid), Kevin's girlfriend who loves Kevin but can't decide on sex or not; Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), a band geek; and Jessica, the single and swinging wise girl (Natasha Lyonne). The flick basically deals with all these relationships with your typical upper grade dick and fart driving plot. Not bad, but not one of the best comedies around. This unrated cut comes with a few added things: a difference in the pie scene and some other touches that kept the flick from being NC-17.

Video:  8/10

This DVD comes with a full screen and widescreen transfer, it makes everyone happy and looks nice. Decent stuff all around.

Audio:  8/10

Again, comes with a 5.1 and DTS track. Decent stuff, not Fight Club or anything, but really solid.

Extras:  10/10

Loaded with commentary by the actors, writers, and director (very cool and funny too), a sneak peak at American Pie 2, deleted scenes, outtakes, trailers, a decent documentary, some montages, music videos, and other nice goodies. This baby is stacked! Package art is pretty decent too, it's too bad it's a double dip, but not terribly different from the first DVD version. Don't waste your money to buy this one too.

Overall:  8/10

Kind of expensive, good movie, great extras, and decent transfers. Dick and fart jokes at their best and some nice T&A.
