So on Saturday we were taking the kids to see a hockey game. As we're heading out the door, my wife insists I grab the camera. The point was lost on me as I took a ton of pictures the last time we went to a hockey game. The lesson learned from the evening was, listen to my wife.
I did in fact grab the camera. What I failed to do was make sure that the memory card was in it. Which it wasn't. Said memory card was still firmly in the card reader on my computer. The discovery came as we were crossing the river into Albany. The sun was down but the sky was still lit beautifully and that, combined with the city lights made for an irresistible shot. I whipped out the camera, flipped it on and promptly cursed at the message on screen informing of the absence of the memory card. It would get worse.
The kids were all excited because no less a celebrity than Dora the Explorer was to be at the game. And meet her they did. What didn't happen was the taking of a memorable picture. And then we got to our seats, which were third row bottom level, perfect for taking great action shots. Not that I could. And then Albany's charming mascot, Rowdy the Rat climbed into our section and did all manner of photo worthy things, up to and including greeting my kids and standing behind my wife so that his tail draped over her shoulder. Yes, these all would have made great shots. And no, not one was captured by me.
Wisely, I have yet to put the memory card back in the camera. That way I can feel stupid all over again.
