Okay, not actual tea made from fresh squeezed ducks (damn PETA) but my mother's old duck shaped teapot. Why this for a model? Because I completely forgot to take pictures today and had to go hunting around the house in the middle of the night looking for something interesting. Plus, I really felt like I might be putting up too many cat pictures.
Let's just assume I don't know what this is and move on.
Actually, I was aiming for the pollen in this shot. There was a lot of it, which impressed me, and the color contrasted very nicely with the petals of the flower. The soft light of early evening made for nice subtle detail too.
Yesterday I drove the whole family down to Shea Stadium Citi Field to see the Mets play. The team was honoring Darryl Strawberry, Dwight "Doc" Gooden, Davey Johnson and Frank Cashen with a ceremony to induct them into the team's Hall of Fame. I was more than a little excited. The ceremony was great but the game that followed is one best forgotten.
I'm a bit late posting a photo for that day because I took nearly 400 of them and just didn't have the energy left to go through them all by the time we got home. I have several shots of planes roaring over head, which is a common sight at Shea Citi Field. One of my most vivid memories from my very first trip to watch the Mets play is of a jet that came over the stadium so low that I swear I could count the lug nuts on the landing gear wheels. The team took the old skyline from the top of the scoreboard and brought it to the new stadium, so this one seemed appropriate.
There was a big parade of all the county fire companies in my town today. This was my favorite shot of well over a hundred that I took.
I have a cheap tripod. It's served me well for years but it was a cheapie model that I picked up at WalMart. This was the second time that I wished for something better. Taking a photo of a really distant object makes tiny movements highly exaggerated in the image. And the tiny movement of the camera's shutter opening was enough to create just a minute movement in the entire camera because the cheap tripod can't suppress it. And it would show up in the picture as motion blur.
Eventually I piled enough heavy objects on the camera and tripod to quell that motion and allow me to take this fairly crisp shot of the moon. But it definitely has me mentally shopping for a new piece of equipment.
Here we see the rare northern tortoise shell house cat stalking her prey. House cats are noted for their ability to sneak up on the notoriously skittish corn kernel.
If you think I'm the sort of person who will make a big deal about reaching a big round number like 100, you clearly don't know me very well. It's just a number. At least 99 let me make a vague hockey related joke in the title. So here's a picture of a weed growing in my back yard. I really went all out for you.
