We'll start off with a boatload of pics from The Time Machine, since that's the exhibit that everyone's always talking about from last weekend. In these two pics we have the life-sized Time Machine on display at The Con from two different angles.
It was a big honkin' machine, so on top of that the good folks at The Con also provided a smaller model so the spectators could see the aerial view here...
...and how Guy Pierce sits in the contraption here - note the un-Guy Pierce like action figure they have in his place.
Other props on display include Vox, shown here...
... and explained on this plaque here. Note the on-set picture below our dear Voxy-boy.
Some action shots from the film were on display (sorry about the glare)...
...and my personal favorite shot, a close-up of one of the elusive Morloks.
Stan Winston, the special effects guru behind such films as The Time Machine and Jurassic Park 3, was in attendance, shown here answering questions from a rapidly swelling audience (some excerpts from that Q&A session can be found elsewhere in The Hollyfeld Reporter).
Unfortunately, I did not catch an explanation of what precisely this schematic represents, although I would presume it to be a layout of the Morlok tunnels.
Nor did I discover exactly how the Titanic keys into the film's plot, even though this commemorative plaque was on display.
I was a huge He-Man fan as a kid so I snapped up a quick shot of this display. I never really got a chance to find out why they had such a large gathering around it, however, except that they were raffling off vintage toys. "Vintage?! How can they be vintage if they're only from the eighties?!" Hollyfeld grumbled. Rassum-frassum…
Here we have a photo of the DVD Panel discussed in a previous issue of The Hollyfeld Reporter. Nothing much special going on, since we weren't allowed to take pictures during the good stuff. Shameless plug for the guys at www.thedigitalbits.com, who put the panel together.
)
One of the ever-present Battlestar Galacticans.
And a glared-in-JUST-the-wrong-spot photo of a "Smallville" poster. But, you get the general idea.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Comic Con without some people from the comic book community. Spider-Man was in attendance, shown here giving an autograph to a lucky young fan.
And so was Elektra, shown here with the luckiest guy at The Con…
…and here, with the second luckiest. Me.
Here is Eric Dean Seaton, writer/creator/letterer of "Prophecy of the Soul Sorcerer," the official TNMC Comic of the Con. Check it out.
Legendary writers in attendance included Will Eisner, arguably the most important writer/artist in comics history, and after whom the Eisner awards were named.
And, fittingly, we follow him with one of last weekends Eisner Award winners, Brian Michael Bendis ("Powers" and "Fortune and Glory"). A truly awesome writer who deserves a lot of credit for being at his booth EVERY DAY, showing a lot of respect for his great and growing number of fans.
A particular treat for me was getting to meet Scott McCloud, author of "Understanding Comics" and "Re-Inventing Comics," the former of which has been one of the most influential books in my life.
Another treat would have been to get to meet Stan "The Man" Lee (as seen in Mallrats), signing autographs here at the DC booth for the first time in his long, illustrious career, for his work on the Just Imagine… series. However, as you may or may not be able to see, the line at least a few hundred people in it, so I didn't get the opportunity.
And since you've been so good at waiting while I've shown you all these people, here is a sneak preview of some statues for Frank Miller's upcoming sequel to "The Dark Knight Returns," portraying both Batman and Catgirl. The title? "The Dark Knight Strikes Back."
Hollyfeld, here, with Elvira (in civilian garb as her alter-ego, Cassandra Peterson), Mistress of the Con.
Elvira with her producer/husband after the premiere of her movie (as discussed) in The Hollyfeld Reporter.
And leaving said panel, about to give an autograph to a young fan.
Here we have a display for the Lord of the Rings trading card game, which includes some pictures that I, for one, have not seen yet.
And while we're at it, a pretty cool goblin mask that was on display elsewhere at The Con.
The Planet of the Apes marketing push was in full-swing last weekend - here are a few impressive statues that were available for public viewing…
…as well as an Ape Helmet and Ape Busts. Don't get me STARTED on Ape Busts… Behind it you will notice some PotA production sketches.
Sam Raimi, post-Spider-Man panel, being escorted out by security. He's the one in the suit, next to the security guy in blue. Couldn't get closer without risking bodily harm, sorry.
There's ALWAYS something nice at the Gwar booth!
Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD (star of the CLASSIC cult film) mocking the line of people waiting for Kevin Smith. Look for the cameos by Green Lantern and Aquaman!
And here I am, posing with not one hero, but two: Wonder Woman AND Sgt. Kabukiman. If you could see the un-edited picture, you would discover the Kabukiman photographs MUCH better than I do. (Bastard.)
A few other tidbits at The Con:
Look at the rare dress from the cult film Dark Crystal…
Look at some of the omnipresent Storm Troopers…
Now look at my thumb! (Gee, I'm dumb.)
Well, that's it for me at The Con. I had a great time and hope you had fun reading about it. Thanks again to John Shea for sending me and taking the time to post my seemingly endless coverage all over the site, and thanks to Deadpool for placing my reviews in his Untitled Deadpool Column. Stick around at TNMC, though - we've got lots of great stuff coming up just around the corner. You'll see…
