Hollyfeld, here, for the final installment of his San Diego Comic Con Escapades. A bit of news about the pictures I had promised - it turns out it's going to be a couple of days. In order to get you guys the best picture quality possible, assuming they'll come out at all, I have gotten the "extra-special-super-duper" package at the developers. That will take at least a couple of days. I promise you that you will see that as soon as I do… maybe even before.

To my dismay, however, these regrets are not my own - I regret that the film failed to provide those scenes which could have pushed it over the edge of mediocrity, and head-on into greatness.

In all fairness, we have hardly had a dearth of worthwhile films so far this year: Memento will almost certainly be remembered come Oscar time, and The Tailor of Panama, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Battle Royale (for those who've had the opportunity to see it) have hardly been disappointments. But, as usual, Hollywood saves the best films of the year for last. And the media, accordingly, is currently telling us which films to watch for this up and coming fall. Fall Previews are abound, and everyone seems eager to drop in their two cents about which films will be worth seeing this fall. Sight unseen, largely, but when everyone is ignorant, everyone has the exact same right to an opinion. And, as you are about to see, one of those people is I.

Hollyfeld, here. We're back with our annual TNMC Oscar Nominee Predictions. Last year our editor-in-chief, John "Batman" Shea, and I tried our luck at predicting who the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would select as the top five candidates in the top categories, and did fairly well. A brief review of our picks shows us being right for three or four nominees per category. However, 2000, though hardly full of sure things, was still more cut and dry than 2001, in which there are numerous films of comparable acclaim all vying for the same awards. So without further ado (sorry, one more: ado), the Batman and The Closet Monster (bonus points for anyone who got that) are taking their crack at predicting the most prestigious nominees of the year:

But, thank God, Hollyfeld wins, 28 accurate predictions to his 25. The loser (John "Batman" Shea) has to watch (ugh) The English Patient and review it for a future column. I almost pity the poor bastard, or at least I would if I wasn't so relieved that I don't have to sit through that piece of Oscar-winning shit again.
