Howdy. It seems more than a little odd to be writing up one's own biography but it cuts down on random questions in email, so here goes.
I was born in 1971 in Ghent, NY and after a bit of wandering have settled back in that very spot. Not one to settle quickly on what to do with myself I attended numerous colleges over about a seven year period, changing majors almost as often. I ended up settling on economics at SUNY Potsdam but also dabbled in art, business administration and mechanical engineering. While in college I met Tina, who surprisingly agreed to marry me shortly after we finished school. From there it was down to Charlottesville, Virginia for a number of years. While there I worked in the world of finance.
In September 1997 the Tuesday Night Movie Club was founded. Not long after the idea for a website was hatched. It debuted on the internet in March 1998 after a brief life on a company intranet. Not content to post other people's brief reviews I added sections to the website, eventually turning it into a busy hub for news of the movie industry. The site started attracting other writers, most of whom would eventually defect to the making of movies themselves. By early 2002 TNMC was pulling 500,000 hits a month.
Shortly after that our first son, Colin, was born and I found drastically less time to run the site. The focus of the website quickly shifted from news to reviews to compensate. Three years later, a second son, Aiden, joined the family and time for the site really plummeted. During this time I had been noodling around with the idea of writing movie scripts. That vague direction took on urgency after making a short documentary about my wife's family. The reception to that film was electric. Like any good drug addict, the urge to repeat the high was overwhelming. In 1996 I threw in the towel and admitted publicly that it was time to stop pretending to be a journalist or a film critic and follow my passion.
That's where I am now. My first completed script Joe Bob the Messiah has been rewritten repeatedly until I'm now rather proud of it. A second script She Hates the Idea has been similarly written and rewritten into what I like to think is a damn fine script. I'm currently rewriting a third script, Natural Tendencies, which I hope to have finished by the end of the year.
Most recently I've begun learning to use After Effects software to create my own special effects. The next step is a short film which I plan to shoot in November. If that goes well I'll work on raising funds to start production on a zombie comedy sometime in 2010.
